Cruise Day 2: Key West, Florida
Our
first port of call was Key West, Florida. My mother had visited
years ago, so it was fun to hear her talk about how much it had changed.
| | To get to the downtown, we took the required, Schoellkopf-like tourist tram.
(We were docked at Navy Pier, and they don't just let you walk around the Naval Air Station.) | We decided to rent bikes rather than take a shore excursion.
We rented from the wonderful Eaton Bikes.
We called the day before and arranged for them to meet us with
bikes, which they did. Price was about $15 each for 4 hours.
It was the right choice!

| | Here are the three of us at the Southernmost Point of the continental US.
So fun!
| Here I am on my bike at the White Street Pier.
We planned to bike all the way around the island (and we did). | | | | | We
stopped for a break To get to the downtown, we took the required,
Schoellkopf-like tourist tram.(to use the bathroom and re-apply
sunscreen) at the Tourist Information Center where US 1 enters Key
West. We also called RHG. | Here we are at Publix. We stopped to buy a bottle of water.
We also stopped at a dive shop to buy me a dive shirt! | | | | | | We
also stopped when we saw this fun pole of signposts. Greer found
the perfect pair next to each other: Las Vegas, Nevada, and L'Anse,
Michigan! | | | | All
my life, I had heard my mother talk about Key West being the start of
US 1. Well, we found it. On the left, Greer and I are
standing next to the sign that announces the start of US 1. On
the right, EHG is standing next to the sign that shows the end of US 1.
Fun! | | | After returning to the ship, I enjoyed the waterslide.
Later, we went to the sauna and toured around the ship. | | | | That night, we dressed up and went to eat in the dining room. We
had pumpkin soup, shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad, bread and butter,
barbeque chicken, zucchini and eggplant parmigiana, farfalle with cream
sauce, butter pecan ice cream, strawberry ice cream, warm chocolate
melting cake with vanilla ice cream, and the cheese plate. (While it was OK, we ate at the buffet for the rest of the cruise.) | | | |
