Longest Flight of My Life!
Losing a whole day on the way to Beijing!

Our flight from Detroit Metro airport to Seattle was scheduled for Friday, June 18, 2010, at 3:35 pm.  We got to the airport a little early (after 1 pm), made it through security with no problems (I wasn't even patted down!), and ate at McDonald's.  Our fight was delayed to wait for a flight attendant to arrive.  Our luggage easily fit overhead.

In-seat entertainment
We were pleasantly surprised when our Delta 2949 flight from Detroit to Seattle had in-seat entertainment.  I love the "playlist" option, where you can choose tracks from a variety of CDs (everything from Elvis's "Kentucky Rain" to Sesame Street's "C is for Cookie") and listen to them throughout the flight.  Don't forget to bring your own headphones!

This was also the first Wifi-enabled plane I had been on.

NOTE TO SELF: Always remember to set the camera's date and time before taking a photo!  (This was actually taken on June 18, 2010!)
This was our amazing view of the Lake Michigan shore as we flew to Seattle.  WOW!

Peanuts and drink
Our service on the flight to Seattle was a choice of beverage (EHG had Diet Coke, I had Fresca) and choice of snack (cookies, pretzels, or peanuts).  We booth chose the peanuts.

The flight was 5 hours.
Our second plane, from Seattle to Beijing on Delta flight 129, was larger, but without in-seat entertainment.  Unfortunately, the cabin-wide entertainment ALSO stopped working after an hour or so.

A 13-hour flight is a long one with no movie!

In-flight menu
We learned on our flights to Togo and Hong Kong that a menu is very common.  We've also learned that, on Asian flights, the Asian choice is often better than the Western one.
Closed view of Chinese choice
open view of Chinese choice
Both of us chose the Chinese choice for the main meal service.  It consisted of Asian pork with lo mein noodles (see in photo on right), lettuce salad, fruit salad, roll with butter, fortune cookie, and beverage (I chose Sprite).
Pizza pre-arrival meal
Snacks were available in the back galley throughout the flight.  I had a turkey sandwich and some water.

About an hour before we landed, we got what Northwest used to call the "snack:" pesto-and-mozzarella pizza (good), fresh fruit cup, and limited choice of beverage (coffee, tea, water, and orange juice--I had orange juice, EHG had coffee).
