Day 13: Alexandria, Virginia, to Ypsilanti, Michigan
Friday, July 11, 2011
520.7 miles

I left Alexandria at 7:58 am, after packing up and eating breakfast.

I was headed north, so after I made it onto the Beltway (where I nearly sideswiped another car to get onto
the entrance ramp), traffic wasn't so bad (just very fast).

I stopped at the Pennsylvania Welcome Center to get a free cookie and lemonade!

Gas was $3.599/gal in Somerset, Pennsylvania.

I expected that most of the Pennsylvania Turnpike would be under construction, just like last summer, and it was.
I didn't expect (as I should have) that the world would be travelling the same roads I was
and that the service centers would be completely filled.
At several of them, I couldn't even find a single parking space, so I just drove on.

I got a Hershey's cookies-and-cream milkshake at one of the travel plazas on the Ohio Turnpike.

I got home at 6:18 pm.  It took me 10 hours and 20 minutes, an average of 50 miles per hour, even through
traffic and construction!

Overall, my trip was 3137.8 miles, lasted 13 days, and cost $1700.  My car averaged 38.0 miles per gallon.

I had such a wonderful trip.  Thank you so much for looking at my pictures!
