We took the Linda Line fast ferry over from Helsinki to Tallinn. | | We went through this gate and into the old party of the city. |
| | |
One of the most intriguing sights were these little seats along the hill up to Toompea. | | The walls around Tallinn were impressive. |

While in Tallinn, we were mostly lost, so we mostly just walked around. We did visit one site, a museum: Kiek in de Kok.
(Admission was 25 EEK each.) My favorite part of the museum
was its historic postcards. We were able to recognize some of the
places we'd been! | | Who knew Livonia was such an important place? |
| | |
This two-handled cannon also intrigued us. We hadn't seen one before. | | The view out of the museum's windows was beautiful. |

Tallinn's Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is stunning in person. I don't know if I've ever seen such a beautiful exterior on any building anywhere. (Maybe St. Mark's Basilica in Venice) |
|
One last postcard-perfect view before heading back down to the ferry dock! Our ferry back was scheduled at 8:00 pm. (We each got an ice cream at a gas station on the way back.) |

What a perfect way to cap a great day! We saw a rainbow while headed back to the ferry! |

Seas
were too rough or winds were too high, so our fast ferry back to
Helsinki was cancelled. We were put on the 8:30 pm Tallink Star car
ferry. The ride was longer, slower, and smoother; we found it peaceful. We ended
up at a strange ferry port in the dark (10:30 pm) and had to find our way back to
our hotel. It was such a memorable adventure, one we would re-live in Macau nearly a year later! |
