Fantastic French Quarter on the Mighty Mississippi
Our time in the historic centers of New Orleans

On our day for history in New Orleans, we started with the National Park Service free (and very short) guided walk, then walked around the French Quarter, and took the streetcar to the Garden District.  After that, we enjoyed a walk around Lakeshore Park and some beignets at the Morning Call.

While waiting for our National Park Service walk to begin, we enjoyed views of the Mississippi.

Our guide was very engaging.
We were each given a badge to wear to show we were on the tour.

After a brief introduction indoors, we started the walk.
We went back to the Mississippi River on the walk.

Jackson Square was a combination of Disney-esque towers and French and Spanish architechture.  So fun!

My mother was anxious to see the Court of Two Sisters restaurant again.
I was impressed by the beautiful Spanish balconies.

We got to go into one of New Orleans's oldest buildings, one called Madame John's Legacy.

Here is my mother in front of Lafitte's blacksmith shop.

We took the St. Charles streetcar from the French Quarter to the Garden District.
One of my favorite things in the Garden District was this corn fence.

As a fan of the television show Top Chef, it was quite fun to see the Commander's Palace, which had just featured prominently in the New Orleans finale.

Since our car was parked in the French Quarter, we took the street car back from the French Quarter.  It was much more crowded on the way back!

It was a wonderful day of history!
Our next stop was Lakeshore Park.  Here is the Mardi Gras fountain.

I would love to return and see the fountains on.
It was amazing to walk along the levee while looking at Lake Pontchartrain.
Another view of walking along the levee.

The Lakeshore Park had shelters that reminded me of Niagara Falls's Dufferin Islands.
It was so flat along the lake!

For years, my mother has told us of the Morning Call, which used to be in the French Quarter.  Now, they've moved, and one of their locations was only a couple of blocks from our hotel in Metairie.
We had to go check it out.  My mother said that the sign and the stand inside looked just the same.  They also had historic photos around the shop.

We had delicious (and cheap) beignets at the Morning Call.  They come plain, and powdered sugar can be added to taste.  They were delicious!

I hope you enjoyed viewing my pictures from my trip to New Orleans.
