A Long Way to Travel Just to Visit Toledo
A day-trip to visit the historic town

On the morning of our final full day in Spain, we got up at 8:20 am, got out at about 9:30 am, took the subway to the wrong bus station, and finally found the correct bus station for Toledo (Plaza Eliptica).  One-way tickets were 4.67 euros ($6) each for the hour-long journey.  Somehow, we just managed to catch the 10:30 am directo bus!

After the initial steep hike up from the bus station, we already had a view of the old center of Toledo.

Along the way, we stopped at the tourist office for a map.
We knew we were headed in the right direction when we found the Bisagra Gate.

We continued the long walk up to central Toledo.  One of the sigts along the way was this beautiful Puerta del Sol gate.

I'm glad we went in the relatively cool month of February!  I can't imagine walk from the bus station to Plaza de Zocodover in, say, August!
We finally made it to the charming Plaza de Zocodover.

Later, we ate lunch at the McDonalds pictured.

One side of Plaza de Zocodover has a charming, Moorish-style keyhole door.
Our first sight to visit in Toledo was the Santa Cruz Museum.  It was free!  The highlight at the end is the paintings by El Greco.

Toledo's cathedral is nestled down small streets.

We found that, as English-speakers from Michigan, it was very hard to remember to pronounce Toledo in the Spanish way.
[We couldn't even buy any souvenirs that said just Toledo because they would've been very unimpressive to friends back home!]
We laughed when we went by this street sign while walking around town :)

We walked all the way through the old town to where the River Tajo winds around.  This was a pretty view of the bridge and gorge.
On the way back, we stopped to enjoy the view of another side of the Toledo cathedral.
The building is massive!

Our final stop in Toledo before heading back to the bus station was the exterior of the Alcazar.
Such a striking building!

Thank you for viewing my pictures.
