Homey Hostal
Pictures from our stay at Hostal Gonzalo in Madrid, Spain

We get off the subway at the Anton Martin stop (in the dark!) and wandered our way to Hostal Gonzalo.  We had been expected many hours earlier, but we were welcomed and shown to our room.

Here I am outside Hostal Gonzalo.  The little yellow sign indicates this is the right building!
The outside of the building was very non-descript.
One reason the hotel was relatively cheap for Madrid was there were *lots* of stairs.  We were unsure of the elevator, so we walked up.
Here was out room.  It had two twin beds, a nightstand with nightlight, TV, desk, luggage rack, and window.  The room rate was 58.75 euros ($75) per night.

Here you can see the door and the ample closet.  To the right of the closet is the bathroom.
The bathroom was fine.  It had a shower and tub, toilet, sink, mirror, and bidet,  The shower was on the side, not the end, and there was a window above it.

I took my netbook with me, and the hotel had free Wifi, so we were able to check our e-mail and plan sightseeing.  It was very handy!
I love trying different soft drinks as I travel.  Madrid's unusual flavor of Fanta was green apple.  It was so, so sweet!  One can was more than enough :)

My mother and I are not adventurous international eaters, so we went to El Corte Ingles (near the Puerta del Sol) and bought orange juice juice boxes and glazed donuts for breakfast every morning.
On to the next pictures
