Because my mother had not been to Switzerland before, we decided to take the bus directly from Milan Malpensa airport to Lugano, Switzerland, for our firstday and night in Europe.
It was raining when we got to Milan.  We took the 10:40 am Malpensa Express bus from Giosy Tours for 20 euros each.  I had made an online reservation, and we bought the tickets just inside the terminal (although we could have bought them from the driver). The bus was not very crowded.  It was comfortable.
Our luggage was stored under the bus for the 80-minute bus ride.  We got to Lugano, Switzerland, around noon.We stayed at Albergo Stella in Lugano, near the train station.
We were in room 24.  The room had two beds, air-conditioning, a large wardrobe, a table and chair, and a TV.
The room had a small, cruise-cabin-like bathroom. The room also had a balcony!
We left the hotel and walked down to the waterfront, enjoying the walk through the waterfront Parco Civico with its beautiful landscaping. We had lunch at McDonald's near the waterfront.  We got two double cheeseburgers, two small fries, and two small drinks for 17.80 CHF ($20).
Next, we headed for Paradiso.  What a view! The in-lake fountain was fun!
From Paradiso, we walked up and up to the Parco Panoramico (aka Parco Guidino). The view from the park was amazing!
After buying our bus tickets for the next day, we went to eat dinner at Snack Bar Messicano near the Lugano bus station. We had tacos, a quesadilla, a burrito, and a bottle of water to share.  They weren't amazing, but they were OK.
We ate outside behind the restaurant in the shade. On the way back to the hotel, we got Magnum ice cream bars at the little grocery store Piccobello in the Lugano train station (3.05 CHF [$3.40] each).
