On my third day, I spent the morning with Greer at her school.  We ate lunch together, then I drove to Mesa Falls, north of Idaho Falls.
It took me an hour and 35 minutes to get to Upper Mesa Falls.  It was a 72-mile drive, and the temperature dropped 10 degrees!
I'm on my way!  (Entrance was $5.) It was a series of steps down to the waterfall overlook.
The Upper Falls were so much bigger than I expected! There was a series of overlooks; each gave a different perspective.  This one shows some of the canyon/gorge.
So gorgeous! I knew that Yellowstone was a caldera, but I never realized it had moved!
Next I drove to Lower Mesa Falls, just down the road. The Lower Falls are quite a distance away, but the view was spectacular.
The view from the Civilian Conservation Corps-constructed view terrace was stunning!
There is a whole Mesa Falls Scenic Byway to explore, but I headed back. The most intriguing sign I passed was this one for Bear Gulch Skin Basin.  What looks like a quiet valley was once a major ski destination.  WOW!
