Day 3 of my trip to Costa Rica was so fun!
Since my tour was not until 2:30 pm, I went walking around La Fortuna after breakfast.  First, I walked in one direction,Saw this bird, what I think is a great kiskadee, while walking around town.
After walking out of town, I walked back into town along a main road.  There was a nice sidewalk! Found La Fortuna's Burger King!
La Fortuna is a tourist town, much like Cave City, Kentucky.

Its main purpose has to do with the nearby volcano, Arenal.

I ate lunch at "my" bakery again after walking all the way out of town the other way, past the schools.  I had a cheese bread (left--the best!), ham-and-cheese croissant (right--OK), and potato-meat-filled flaky pastry with a little spice (OK), plus a 7-Up for less than $5.  I started eating outside, but it started to rain, so I moved inside.
I was picked up just after 2:30 pm at my hotel by guide David and driver Miner from Sunset Tours.  There were two other couples as well.  We drove to Arenal National Park to hike to the 1992 lava flows.  (I think we took the Sendero Las Coladas trail.) Here I am along the trail before the torrential rains started.
We stopped for photos with this giant tree with buttress roots, El Ceibo.Another snake (eyelash viper?) along the trail
The end of our walk was to this amazing viewpoint.  And the rain ended by the time we made it here! Behind us at the viewpoint was a view of the lake (Laguna de Arenal).  You can see we were walking on the old lava flow!
After the hike, I was dropped off at Baldi Hot Springs, a series of hot water pools and waterslides.  I rented a locker and towel, changed, and enjoyed a couple of hours there.  I needed a waterproof watch and water shoes, as there is only one clock in the whole place, and everything is done with rough concrete.  Also, everything at Baldi is very dark!  When I was done, I waited outside to be picked up and taken back to the hotel.
