One of the reasons I
wanted to go to Alaska was to visit Denali National Park.
As always, I had to get
a shot of me with the National Park sign.
The highlight of my
first day near the park was the visit to the dogsled kennels. I
arrived from Anchorage just as the kennel bus was pulling away but they
let me on : ) First, we got to visit with and pet many of the
sled dogs from the kennel. Then they hitched up some of them to a
summer wheeled sled and took them around the track. Very neat!
I stayed at the Denali
Dome Home in Healy, Alaska. The room was huge and had an attached
bathroom. I enjoyed watching DVD movies on the TV.
I had booked the 9:15 am
Wonder Lake shuttle bus on the Internet.
Although you might think that 11 hours on a school bus would be
uncomfortable, it was not a problem.
I did get my own seat on
the bus both on the way and back.
We made stops every so often. I took my own lunch and water.
At Polychrome Pass, the
view was gorgeous! I especially liked the braided river.
The highlight of the
shuttle bus trip was getting to see a mama bear and her two cubs very
close to the bus. We watched them for about 30 minutes (near the
Toklat bridge).

The Eielson Visitor
Center was a nice break, with flush toilets, potable water, a little
trail, and lots of information. This day there was no view of
Denali, though (no surprise).
A nice view of a
caribou. We also saw moose, a gyrfalcon, beavers, and Dall sheep
(in the far distance).
I just can't get away
from Greer!
This was at my bed and breakfast : )
I thought I wouldn't get
to see Denali (Mt. McKinley), as I hadn't see it in my two days at the
national park. But on my drive back to Anchorage, the skies
cleared, the sun came out, and there it was!
No picture can do it justice.
It is that beautiful.
A man was nice enough to
snap this picture of me and Denali.
I just couldn't get
enough pictures!
I thought I'd seen the
last of the mountain until I turned off toward Talkeetna to visit their
Moose Dropping Festival.
Then I saw this amazing panorama.
I just couldn't stop smiling!
